Dr Gardiner Spring was the distinguished pastor of a Presbyterian church in New York for more than fifty-five years. The final edition of his book Essays on the Distinguishing Traits of Christian Character was published in 1829. It is this work which is here presented in a contemporary and easy-to-read form.

 

Philip Tait studied English at the University of Southampton, and then spent fourteen years in government service. Since 1989 he has been pastor of a Baptist church in London. He is the author of many magazine articles, and has been the editor of the Christian poetry magazine Symphony since 1983. he prepared the final text of Learning to be Happy, an abridgement of Jeremiah Burroughs' The Rare Jewel of Christian Contentment, also published by Grace Publications Trust.
